Assessing the Feasibility of SMS Recruitment for Cervical Cancer Screening Among Women in Rwanda

Cervical cancer remains a leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women in Rwanda and many low-resource settings. Early detection through regular screening is critical to reducing mortality, yet participation rates remain low. Mobile phone penetration in Rwanda offers a promising channel to reach women with health messages. This blog post examines a pilot study that explored the feasibility of using SMS (Short Message Service) to recruit women for cervical cancer screening. We analyze the study’s objectives, methods, key findings, and discuss the benefits and challenges of SMS recruitment in this context. Finally, we consider public health implications and suggest directions for future research.
